Warm Rainy Day Outfit Ideas

This post will show you what to wear on warm rainy days, with outfit ideas.

Dressing for a warm rainy day isn’t quite as simple as bundling up during chilly rainstorms — so I thought it warranted its own article. (See our guide to what to wear on cold rainy days for tips for those chillier storms!)

After all, when it’s hot and sticky out, the last thing you want to wear is a pair of heavy winter rain boots and an insulated raincoat. Not exactly comfortable!

Read on for tips on how to stay comfortable, dry, and stylish even in warm, rainy weather conditions.

Warm Rainy Day Essentials

Think beyond traditional wellies when keeping your feet dry during spring and summer rainstorms.

Short Rain Boots

I love tall rain boots, but in the summer, try a short pair instead.

Chelsea-inspired rain booties won’t overheat your legs and can be worn with anything from dresses to shorts.

This pair comes in multiple colors, including classic black, but a lighter color, like cream/white, feels even more appropriate for the warm season.

Jelly Shoes/Sandals

Jelly shoes have come a long way since the ones you wore in elementary school, and believe it or not, they are a budding trend that’s gaining traction in the fashion world.

These jelly fisherman sandals will look stylish paired with your summer skirts, shorts, and dresses, and you won’t have to worry about them getting soggy since they’re water-resistant.

Rubber Birkenstocks or Rubber Slides

Rubber sandals, including Birkenstocks and slide sandals, will be just as useful at the beach or pool as they will be on a hot, rainy day, thanks to their quick-drying properties.

They are both comfy, easy shoe options (so long as you don’t mind your feet getting a little wet).

Waterproof Sneakers

Whoever invented waterproof sneakers is a genius in my eyes.

I’m a sneaker girl the majority of the time, but soggy, rain-soaked sneakers are (obviously) not appealing.

With a waterproof pair, though, you can take on the elements without that worry while staying comfortable on your feet.

Synthetic Leather Shoes & Boots

Synthetic leather can withstand light rain and provide an edgy touch to your ensemble.

Shoes like lace-up and combat boots can handle a drizzle with ease, and since they don’t go higher than your calves, you won’t feel overheated when wearing them.

Outerwear

A lightweight jacket is the ideal companion for a warm rainy day.

It doesn’t have to be waterproof (see our guide to how to wear a raincoat if you want to go that route), but it should be made from a fabric that dries relatively quickly.

Be sure to pick something lightweight since the goal is to keep the rain off your skin, not necessarily to keep you warm (like in the fall and wintertime).

Classic Trench Coat

A timeless classic, the trench coat is the epitome of elegance on a rainy day. It will instantly elevate just about any outfit and is something you’ll be able to wear for years to come.

Its twill weave fabric is lightweight and will keep you dry — just don’t forget an umbrella!

P.S. — Also, look for cropped trench coat styles, which are currently trending.

Utility Jacket

Timeless with a touch of rugged flair, utility jackets are a practical addition to any wardrobe.

This olive green option is 100% cotton, which isn’t waterproof, but it is lightweight and has a hood, making it a solid choice for a warm, rainy day.

Nylon Parka Jacket

Nylon is a great material to look out for when shopping for a lightweight rain jacket, and this one has a similar design as a utility jacket, with plenty of functional pockets.

Its neutral hue also makes it super versatile, and its nylon fabrication means it’ll dry in no time.

Denim Jacket

Denim jackets prove that denim can be rain-ready, too. This versatile piece adds a touch of casual cool to your outfit while offering a degree of water resistance.

Its adaptable nature allows you to pair it with various tops and bottoms, and you can wear it in the fall and spring seasons, too.

Windbreaker Jacket

For a sportier vibe, go for a windbreaker jacket. This activewear piece is as lightweight as it gets but will keep you dry and shield you from winds (hence its name).

Make sure to choose a hooded windbreaker (like this one) to keep you extra dry.

Accessories

If the forecast is predicting heavy rain and winds, a bubble umbrella is a sensible option.

In addition to my heavy-duty bubble umbrella, I have a compact umbrella that I stash in my bag every day — just in case. (Can you tell I had bad experiences getting caught in surprise storms? These days, I over-prepare for precipitation… constant vigilance!)

Bubble Umbrella

A bubble umbrella is a functional accessory that doesn’t sacrifice style. Its clear, dome-shaped design not only shields you from rain but also provides a unique and chic appearance.

Compact Umbrella

Compact Mini Umbrella

A compact umbrella is the perfect blend of practicality and fashion. Its small size makes it easy to carry in your bag, ensuring you’re prepared for sudden downpours, especially this one, which comes with a carrying case.

This mini umbrella is also available in a ton of different colors, allowing you to find your favorite hue.

Waterproof Backpack

If you are a student, a waterproof backpack is a total must-have.

You never know when you may get caught in the rain while on campus, and carrying your belongings in a waterproof pack like the classic Fjällräven Kånken Water-Resistant Backpack will give you peace of mind knowing that your laptop, books, notebooks, and whatever else will be safe from the elements!

Water-Repellent Tote Bag

Another great rainy-day bag option is a tote bag made from a water-repellent material, like this functional bag from Lululemon.

It has plenty of handy pockets, stands up on its own, comes in multiple colors, and, most importantly, will help to keep your belongings dry thanks to its water-repellent exterior fabric.

Cute Rainy Day Outfit

Products: Trench Coat, Shirt, Skirt, Socks, Boots

You can never go wrong with a classic trench coat, but this season, cropped trenches are the latest trend — and they happen to be perfect for warm rainy days!

Get in on the trend with this cropped trench coat, which is a modern update to the classic outerwear piece that will still make you look super polished. Wear it with cute pieces that are lightweight, like a woven short-sleeve button-down shirt and a smocked georgette skirt.

Keep your feet nice and dry with these adorable rain ankle boots that have chunky soles and an easy pull-on design. They come in six different colors, but I especially love this neutral hue since it will match with just about any look.

This outfit is proof that just because you have to dress for “bad” weather doesn’t mean that you can’t still look cute!

Stylish Rainy Day Outfit

Everyone should invest in a classic trench coat, as it’s a staple piece you’ll be able to wear for years to come. This long, lightweight coat will also help keep your legs dry from the rain, which means you won’t have to give up wearing your summery dresses.

Try a denim mini dress for a stylish contrast, which is 100% cotton, meaning it’ll be breathable in warm weather but also won’t easily get soaked through or stick to your body the way other materials might.

Step up the look with chic rain accessories like a water-resistant bucket hat, some water-resistant rubber booties, and a durable, water-resistant tote bag that will keep your belongings dry, too. This tote bag comes in three sizes and can be customized with your monogram, giving it a personal touch.

Athleisure Rainy Day Outfit

I’m a huge fan of athleisure — it’s what you’ll find me in 90% of the time, including on rainy days.

Pro tip: invest in a pair of waterproof sneakers so that you don’t have to sacrifice comfort when it’s wet outside! These Nike running shoes are waterproof, so they’ll keep your feet dry regardless of the weather conditions, paired with some slouchy socks.

You can still wear shorts since it’ll be warm out, and nothing is easier than a matching set when it comes to getting dressed. This bike shorts and t-shirt set are made from a stretchy, breathable material to help keep you cool and comfy.

Consider wearing a longer raincoat over the top, like this versatile black rubberized rain parka coat that is still super lightweight and will help keep your legs dry. Its rubber-like material is ideal for rainy conditions.

To keep your hair tame (since, for many of us, rain = frizzy hair), throw on a sleek baseball hat that will add to the athleisure vibe.

Trendy Rainy Day Outfit

This would be an adorable outfit for a really warm or humid day when you’re not 100% sure if it’s going to rain or not.

A black satin midi skirt is a versatile item that won’t become see-through if it rains and is ultra-lightweight. Wear it with a basic tank top like this olive green scoop neck tank, along with a trendy necklace, like a corded pendant necklace.

These rubber platform sandals are the ultimate summer rain shoes since they are water-resistant, but you can wear them just as easily on a sunny day. Their chunky platform sole also means you’ll be able to walk through (small) puddles without a problem.

Don’t forget a lightweight rain jacket: this earthy green cropped hooded rain jacket is as lightweight as it gets, and its cropped length makes it fashion-forward.
